Before - The furniture placement does not complement the angled fireplace
- which is a natural focal point in this room.
After - The sofa and chairs are now angled to face the fireplace
creating balance and direction.
Notice how the new accessory arrangement adds height to the cabinet
above the fireplace.
By moving the buffet and lowering the artwork we create visual
weight and
interest on the right wall of the living room.
From Blah to
Tah Dah...
What do you do with a boring bedroom when the landlord does not allow
paint?
And...
How do you add pizzazz with very little cash?
A one hour shopping trip to IKEA and $250 later transformed boring to
vibrant.
Moving the bed to the long wall and adding a new framed poster above it
creates a focal point.
Two new night tables and contemporary lamps add needed storage and
light.
Accent pillows in red, a new red chair and framed artwork made from a
travel calendar add personality and a punch of color.
From Drab to Dramatic...
Before - An uneven distribution of furniture created a room that was off
balance. Lack of adequate lighting and plain vertical blinds make the room
seem uninviting.
After - Moving the china cabinet to the right wall adds drama and
interest.
A "no sew" valance was fashioned from table runners.
Two lamps were taken from a bedroom and given new shades.
The left wall is too crowded and heavy. The love seat is against the wall
flanked by two large end tables. The beautiful china closet is lost in the
corner to the left of the love seat.
After - We pulled the love seat away from the wall and positioned it at an
L with the sofa. We removed one of the end tables and moved the sofa table
behind the sofa.
We added an area rug from the bedroom to "ground" the entire arrangement.
The new arrangement is now dramatic and pulled together.
From Cold to Cozy...
This new homeowner was overwhelmed by the empty living room.
The heavy, reclining sofa was suppose to go downstairs in the gameroom but
didn't fit through the stairwell.
How do you make this casual sofa work in the more formal living room? And,
how do you complete the room on a very limited budget?
After - A plaid chair was borrowed from the study and connected to the
sofa with a corner end table. The buffet and two arm chairs were added
from the dining room. A fabric remnant was stapled to the formerly white
dining chairs to bring some color to that wall.
A large print was hung above the buffet for drama and weight. We found the
two lamps, burgundy pillows and area rug at a neighborhood garage sale for
under $200.
